I figured, since we travelled all the way out to the Okanagan Valley for Winefest this year, we better say a few things about our accomodations. Since this is what this blog is all about right? Travel tips, photo's and more.
We checked out a few different places on line in advance. Although I know the Penticton area extremely well, it always helps to read what others are saying. I prefer to stay at the Ramada when I travel, just blocks away from the Days Inn near Okanagan Lake, but for October it seemed a little pricey. The other possibility was the Lake Side Resort. Despite the 4 out of 5 star rating, the reviews seemed to focus mostly on the poor service. Having experience that first hand last year on a stop for dinner on their patio/lakeside patio, I tend to agree.
The Days Inn, part of the Wyndham chain of hotels world wide, actually gets a higher overall rating than the Lake Side Resort. 4.3. However, for a Wyndam property, it could maybe use a little updating. We were trying to figure out if it was more 80's or 90's in decor. The fact of the matter it's Penticton. In the big picture it's, at best, a 3 star average town for accomodations. You have to keep that in mind when when check in. Once you get past the areas that need upgrading it's fine. The front desk service is friendly and helpful, the rooms, at least ours, was spacious and for this time of year it was quiet. Even considering there were a couple of junior sports teams booked in. In the summer, because of location close to the lake, it can tend to be a little noisier and high traffic.
The Days Inn is a full service hotel and conference centre. It offers all the extra's you'ld expect. The pool, spa, internet and morning continental breakfast. (with all the sport teams in for the weekend, it was a little crazy finding a place to sit and something to eat. Staff were a little overwhelmed and they couldn't keep the coffee filled.)
During Winefest the rates were decent compared to the Ramada and the Lake Side. About $100C. The price drops after the Thanksgiving weekend to about $89.
Over all, we were pleased and would definately book here again. Coming to the Okanagan and want to decent place to stay without spending too much. Days Inn is definately worth a look.
