Norwegian Star Cruise Ship expected February 9

The cruise ship season is starting unusually early this year for the Capital Regional District.  What's up with that?  This is a sight we usually don't see until at least the May long weekend.  But hey, we'll take it.  Ships bring money, and coming off the heals of a light tourism year in 2009, this can only good news for the city.

The Norwegian Star arrives for a day-long visit on its way to Vancouver. According to an article in the paper this morning, the ship has been charted by NewWest Special Projects LP to offer luxury accommodation to visitors during the 2010 Olympics. It will leave Victoria at 6 p.m. The cruise is part of a four nighter out of Los Angeles which leaves the city of Angels on the 6th of February.  Once in Victoria, cruise ships will most likely make their home in Coal Harbor at Canada Place or Ballentyne Pier.

It's interesting to note, that this arrival will edge out last years total visits for the year by one.  Victoria will see a total of 229 ship visits.
