March Break travellers gear up for road trips

This year thousands of travellers are packing up the SUV or minivan, hitting the open road and heading south for fun in the sun.

The top three driving destinations of choice for March Break this year:

1. Orlando, Florida

2. Miami/Ft. Lauderdale, Florida

3. Tampa Bay Area, Florida

CAA recommends you plan before you get on the road, map out your routes and ensure your vehicle is properly maintained. If you are making the trek south be sure to take plenty of breaks from driving and make sure you are well rested before getting behind the wheel.

"We suggest three days of travel time to Florida destinations with a 15-minute break every two hours," said Silvana Aceto, spokesperson for CAA SCO.

The total number of passengers travelling by air this March Break is down 11 per cent from last year.

Meanwhile, CAA members can show their card and save at Hertz, Park 'N Fly, Gray Line, and at a select number of hotels and US attractions.
