San Juan, Puerto Rico - Carnival Cruise Lines Day 4

Today was the big boarding day as we wrap up three great days in San Jaun.

We found a great Japanese Sushi bar on the way to the Carnival Victory, called the J-Taste, just blocks from the hotel and down the street from the Cruise Ship terminal.  If you visit J-Taste, you HAVE to try what they call the "San Juan" roll.  We have experienced alot of different ways to eat Plantains but this recipie rolls them all into their version of the classic "California Roll".  When we return from our one week at sea, we will be venturing back their so I can order a whole one to myself that I don't have to share.

Here's where the fun begins.  Boarding on a Carnival Cruise ship.  This is our second cruise with Carnival, and in comparison to our first cruise out of New Orleans last spring, this was rather a quick process.  A series of check points, as would be expected, and bag screening and we were through.  The trick, we find, is to register your "Fun Pass" ahead of time on the internet before you even leave home.  This doesn't take alot of time, but sure makes check-in a breeze.

As soon as we got on the ship, and found the closet beverage, the Canada - USA Gold medal hockey game got underway.  I know you are not supposed to be watching TV when you're on holidays, especially TV from your hometown, but hey it was hockey.  This was a great way to tell who all your fellow Canadians were on board.  Each goal scored erupted into a party.  Way to go Crosby for the big winning goal.  It was funny at dinner time, (the first night was open sitting) we sat with a group of Americans.  It was clear they were not impressed with the Canada win.  Oh well!

The state room is fabulous.  This is our first room with a balcony, and now with this experience I can't see not having one on the next cruise.  The Carnival Victory is much larger than our first ship, The Carnival Fantasy, and is done up in a Posiden or Ocean theme.  Very well appointed and comfortable for one of their older ships in the fleet.  Spent our first night in the Irish Seas Bar for some great sing-a-long and beer and even won the Silver Medal in Name That Tune.  Not bad for day one on the ship.

On our way to St. Thomas, the first stop in the US Virgin Islands.  Not planning any excursions, but plan on walking a lot to get more great photo's (Still unable to upload any.  Damn.  Can't even do this on the ship.  This is probably one of my biggest negatives so far on our travel.  There's got to be an easier way.)

So far, the food is filling, the beer is cold and our Steward, iPutu from Indonesia, is taking care of us well.  He's working hard so we don't have to.

Off we go, we will check in later.  If there's anything you want us to check out while we're onthe ship, or on the islands, leave a note for us and we'll investigate.
