CALGARY —
An abrupt change of leadership at air carrier WestJet heralds a more focused approach toward expanding the Calgary-based airline, incoming chief executive Gregg Saretsky said yesterday.
The current vice-president of operations said WestJet won’t be changing direction for another year or so, but he will be leveraging his 25 years experience in the industry to expand its horizons.
Chief executive Sean Durfy said Monday he was seeking a more balanced lifestyle and not a new job after announcing his unexpected retirement from Canada’s second largest airline on April 1.
Durfy said he wished to spend more time with his young family. Wife Tracy had a malignant brain tumour removed several years ago, although her health now was “perfect,” and the couple recently decided to bring balance back to his life, Durfy said.
